CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A manager of a popular area restaurant is held up at gunpoint, and forced back to the office to clean out the cash register.

Mac's Speed Shop on Sandy Porter Road in the Steele Creek area is a popular attraction for those who crave motorcycles, bar-b-que and the occasional adult beverage.

But it also turned out to be popular for a man with more nefarious purpose in mind.

Charlotte Mecklenburg police said around 1:30am Friday morning, a lone employee was locking up for the night.

As he was heading out the back door to his car, officers said he was confronted by a man wearing a mask, and holding a gun.

It's a classic ambush-style robbery according to investigators.

The manager was forced back into the restaurant and into the office.  The gunman then ransacked the cash register.

He was able to pull a small amount of money, before turning his attention to the store's safe.

Officers said because the safe was on a time lock, the thief wasn't able to get at the cash inside.

The gunman raised his pistol again at the manager, before fleeing the scene.  The employee wasn't hurt.

As for tracking the gunman down, police may have their hands full.  the manager of Mac's wasn't able to give a detailed description of what the man looked like.

The security cameras were also reportedly either not on, or not working.
