Cops: Woman charged with DWI, hit and run after hitting bicyclist

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- A Charlotte woman is facing charges after police say she ran over a bicyclist with her car and left him in the road early Thursday morning.

According to police, the incident happened around 5:50 a.m. Thursday morning.

Officers say they were called to the 13900 block of Brown-Grier Road in reference to a hit and run with injuries.   This is in the Steele Creek area.

Police say they found 50-year-old George Scott Curtis lying in the road, with serious injuries.  He was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.

Shortly after the incident, citizens called 911 stating that there was a vehicle driving erratically on the outer loop of 485 near Independence Boulevard. 

One person followed the suspect vehicle to the Rocky River Road exit where State Highway Patrol was able to conduct a traffic stop. 

Jenna Esperanza Woodring, 25, is charged with driving while impaired, felony hit and run and felony serious injury to conduct a traffic stop, according to police.

This collision is under investigation by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department's Major crash Investigation Unit. Any witnesses to this collision are being asked to call Detective R. Gormican at 704-432-2169.
